From Grantham to the House of Lords
- 1925, October 13: Born, Margaret Hilda Roberts in Grantham, Lincolnshire
- 1947, June: Graduates from Oxford with a chemistry degree.
- 1951, December 13: Marries Denis Thatcher
- 1953, August 15 : Gives birth to twins, Mark and Carol
- 1954, June 1: Qualifies as a lawyer.
- 1959, October 8: Elected to Parliament as a Conesrvative MP for Finchley.
- 1970, June 20: Appointed as secretary of state for eduation and science by Edward Heath after the Conservative victory in the 1970 general elections.
- 1975, February 11: Elected leader of the Conservative Party.
- 1979, May 3: Wins national elections to become Britain's first female prime minister. She would go on to hold the position for 11 and a half years — the longest serving prime minister of the 20th century.
- 1990, November 22: Resigns from parliament after losing support of the party over differences on European Economic Community policy and the "poll tax".
- 1992, June 26: Becomes Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven, a member of the unelected House of Lords with a lifetime title.
- 2002, March 22: Ends public speaking after suffering a series of small strokes.
- 2003, June 26: Her husband, Sir Denis Thatcher, dies at the age of 88.
- 2013, April 8: Dies of stroke.
